From the Neighborhood

Nehemiah’s plan for rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem seems to correlate well with the heart of God and His primary messages to mankind. Tend to the damage that is closest to you. Do your work to repair your part of the wall.  Work with those nearest to you to build something strong.  Be watchful for that which could damage or destroy you.  It sounds like community and connectedness to me.

Maybe if we tended to the condition of our own hearts and homes and workplaces and neighbors, we’d see more healthy communities. If we built well where we are, we’d probably have a lot more to offer others as well, for there is surely more that well-formed groups can do.  It just seems that the running from and the running to, all the escapism, and all the quest for domination that compels mankind creates a lot of chaos.
