The Other Side of the Coin

Stephen Fry’s comments about the conversation he would have with God if it turned out that he was wrong about His existence fascinate me.

With the power that an Almighty would possess (IF He exists), it seems impossible to come to the conclusion that He wants our demise, for with all the damage that has been inflicted here, He could have long ago said “Enough!”  That we are all still here, and having the choice to do good, is amazing evidence of His heart and His hope and His mercy, and of His confidence that we who are present in our generation would care enough to ease the pain and help the suffering that we encounter.

We can rail on the world’s condition, we can stand and blame God for the result of the reality of the same free will that invites us into being part of the solution, or we can get down on our knees with prayer, and a bucket of warm water and a rag (which on any given day my be disguised as a plate of food, a warm coat, or a hand extended to our neighbor.)
