This God, whose holiness would strip us of all the synthetic
drapings we cling to, all the wobbly foundations we insist are essential, all
the decorations we claim are beauty, challenges us with this idea that He is Love. No wonder most of our primal issues are
about trust.
Only those who dare to begin to think that He could be telling the truth, and start on a
toddling journey to touch what others fear is dangerous, will discover that it
begins to have weight. Observers
call it faith. Insiders know that
though they still can’t see exactly where He is leading or what He might ask in
the process, they believe—because they have begun to taste Him along the
way—that He will be with them and that He is astonishingly good. And that is enough.
